Last night I did laundry. I'd left a pile of bibs on the living room floor that I didn't put away.
This morning I let Dax play in the living room while I got breakfast ready in the kitchen. He crawled over to the pile of bibs. I watched him, thinking to myself that he'd scatter the pile because that's what he does to all piles - knocks them down. He bapped his little hand on the bib pile a few times but left it in place, then he picked up one bib and closed his chubby little fist around it. He crawled from the living room into the dining room, carrying his one bib in his closed fist, and looking adorable crawling around with a shut fist. He crawled over to his high chair. Pulled himself to standing using the high chair's legs. Looks up at me, waving his bib in the air, and says, "MmmmmMMmmmMmmmmm!"
Later, close to lunch time, I had the kitchen baby gates open because I'd be in there cleaning the counters anyway. He eagerly crawled into the (normally inaccessible to him) kitchen and started slapping the tile floor. Then he spotted a couple empty cereal boxes in the corner on the floor and crawled over to them. Cool, something I don't mind him playing with - my recycle pile. He picks up the empty box of store-brand Cheerios from the pile, then lifts and tilts the box like he's trying to empty cheerios into his mouth! Nothing comes out, so he taps on the other end of the box, then gives it a good shake. Then he looks at me and furrows his eyebrows! Cheerios (well, store brand - that box) are the only cereal he's had, and it interested me that he didn't want the other cereal boxes, he wanted that one.
He amazes me. Every day. I know this is tiny little stuff but it absolutely amazes me how fast he's growing and how much he seems to understand. 9 months old. So much fun.
