So hubby logged onto our auto insurance website to see if it will make a difference in our rates now that I'm not using my car to commute to work anymore... only to be surprised that we do not have car insurance.
No car insurance! Apparently it expired in JUNE and we both had no clue!!
Um, in our defense... for the entire 8 years we've been married, we've had the same auto insurance, and we have had it set to auto pay and auto renew every 6 months. Every 6 months I get a little notice in the mail stating what the rates are and the new effective dates. I open the envelope, file the paper, and think nothing of it.
Well, apparently when I was 8 months pregnant and barely keeping up with mail anyway, I opened the familiar envelope, unfolded the paper, and stuck it into the file without noticing that the wording had changed! Same format (how stupid is that of them to have the same letter format when they're saying you have renewed your policy versus when your policy is expiring on June 22nd!?).
So anyway, hubby spent over an hour on the phone today arguing with a lady, then her supervisor, then that person's boss, in order to get the same long-term-customer-perfect-record rates we used to have, instead of the $100 extra they wanted to charge us since we had to start a new policy. So aggravating.
At least they finally let us do it. How can you change auto-renew and make it not auto-renew after years... and not contact your customer? By phone or email would have been nice in addition to the letter. They've contacted us by email when our credit cards have expired over the years, to get the new info. Anyhow, now we have auto insurance again. Good thing nothing bad happened when we didn't have it. The plus side is that we saved like $400 for not having auto insurance for 3 months! ha ha. :)
Oh, and while I was planning on taking Dax and attending women's conference this evening, I completely spaced it and forgot. Now I'm bummed that I missed it.
